How to Write 烧 (shāo) — Meaning “To burn or to cook”

Imagine a fire (火) burning a candle shaped like the letter "Y" – because 尧 looks a bit like a "Y" with two horizontal lines. As the fire burns, you shout "Shao!" – the sound of the character. This links the shape, the fire, and the pronunciation.
